Wasps:
Our Preventive
Wasp Program will provide treatment to your
home to eliminate any current nesting and prevent
future nesting of Paper Wasps, Hornets and Mud
dauber wasps. These are all stinging insects that
will nest "onto" your home. Our program also
offers preventive treatment for decks, play sets,
basketball hoops, storage sheds, hot tub frames
and any other places wasps will attempt to
nest. Our inspection report will also list areas
that need to be sealed to prevent Yellow Jackets
and Honey Bees nesting areas (void nesters, see
below) |

Paper
Wasps are the most common stinging insect seen in
Michigan. Their highest activity months are May
and August. In May the most activity is seen
because the queen wasps that have over wintered
are now attempting to find new nesting areas. |
|
| The
wasps will be seen "bouncing" around
areas such as eaves, peaks of roof, deck railing,
gutters and window/door frames looking for
appropriate nesting sites. These areas are the
most common nesting spots. |

|
|
| Once the
nesting has been established, the queen wasp will then
begin laying eggs that will hatch into worker wasps. As
they expand the nest size, so will the number of wasps.
In August, (2nd peak season) the diet of the wasp will
change and they become more aggressive and faster
builders. The warmer the weather, the more active they
are.
|
| Hornets:
Hornets are
the most aggressive stinging insect in the
wasp family. They will attack when provoked,
feeling threatened or for no reason at all.
Hornets begin to nest in mid July through
October. They will build a "paper
ball" nest that can range in size from
a softball to two basketballs! Hornets are
very fast builders and can build a large
size nest as quick as 7-10 days. Nesting
areas are commonly peaks of homes, under
decks and in trees.

|
A
Preventive Wasp Treatment will eliminate the
chance of a hornet nest being built onto
your home. If, you do find a nest on your
home or in a tree it is best to let a
professional eliminate it for you and knock
it down. Hornets are very aggressive and can
sting multiple times. Attempting to treat it
yourself, if done incorrectly can prove
costly for the homeowner. |
|
| Yellow
Jackets:
Yellow
Jackets are also a very aggressive stinging
insect when they are provoked or threatened.
They also can sting multiple times. Loud
vibrations or noises will provoke a yellow
jacket as will disturbing a nest. |

|
|
Yellow
Jackets are void nesters. They will either nest in
a void space ( wall voids, between floors of
homes, crawl space voids ) or in the ground. A
Yellow Jacket nest can be detected by seeing high
visible activity throughout the day. Yellow
Jackets will continuously have activity going in
and out of the nest. If you see this, DO NOT SEAL
UP THE OPENINGS, this will cause a backup into the
home or business. Yellow Jackets should only be
dealt with by a professional.
